CFP: Polin Museum Research Workshops 2017

We invite individuals and institutions to propose three-day research workshops to be held at POLIN Museum on topics related to the history and culture of Polish Jews, including new perspectives on public history, museums, and cultural memory. We especially encourage interdisciplinary and comparative approaches.

GEOP covers half of the costs of organization (travel, accommodation, and meals). We also offer venues and organizational support before and during the workshops. We will support up to four workshops a year.

Please note that topics dealing with periods prior to the Holocaust are strongly encouraged.

Preference will be given to workshops that lead to an outcome, for example:

  • Publication (articles, special issue of a journal, online publication, book)
  • Conference
  • Course or curriculum in Polish-Jewish studies
  • Exhibition or related public history project at POLIN Museum and/or elsewhere in cooperation with POLIN Museum

We encourage proposals on the legacy of Ludwik Zamenhof on the 100th anniversary of his death.

Proposals for workshops should contain:

  • Short biography of the workshop facilitator
  • Workshop topic and its contribution to the field (up to 2000 words)
  • Suggested workshop dates and description of each day of the workshop
  • Proposed workshop participants (up to 20, with at least 5 confirmed, we are kindly asking to include international participants)
  • List of institutional partner(s) and their contribution (at least one Polish partner in addition to POLIN Museum is required)

Deadline for applications for 2017 workshops: September 30, 2016.

Decisions will be announced by October 20, 2016.
