The Jewish Institute for Adult Education (JIFE) is proud to host the first international Vienna Yiddish Language Conference on the 22nd and 23rd of January, 2018 in cooperation with the University of Vienna's Departments of Jewish Studies and Linguistics. The Conference will take place at Vienna’s oldest hotel, Hotel Stefanie, in Vienna’s historic Jewish district, Leopoldstadt. We encourage submissions in all areas of Yiddish language research including Yiddish linguistics, Yiddish literature and more generally Yiddish philology. JIFE will publish an online proceedings volume to which all participants will be asked to submit paper versions of the research presented at the conference. The best paper will be awarded the “VYLC Best Paper Award” which comes with a EUR 300 cash prize.
Registration
All conference participants (presenters and non-presenters) will be required to register for the conference ahead of time and pay a EUR 150 registration fee. Information on how to register will be made available here on November 15, 2018.
Abstract Guidelines
Abstracts may be submitted for 20-minute paper presentation and/or poster presentation. Authors may submit no more than one single-authored abstract. There is no limit on co-authored abstracts. Authors are expected to present their own papers and posters. Papers and posters must be delivered as projected in the abstract or represent bona fide developments of the same research. Authors must not submit abstracts for research that has already been presented at other major conferences or which has been published. Abstracts must be submitted in PDF format. Abstracts must fit on one A4 or letter size page with font no smaller than 12 points. No exceptions to these requirements will be made. If you identify yourself in any way on the abstract itself, the abstract will be rejected without being evaluated. Abstracts that do not conform to the format guidelines will not be considered.
How to Submit
Please email your abstract as a PDF to vylc2018@jife.at with subject line "VYLC 2018 Submission". In the body of the email include the names of all authors, their affiliations and whether you would like your abstract to be considered for a 20-minute oral presentation, a poster presentation or both. Please do not submit multiple abstracts in the same email. Multiple submissions by the same author should be sent in separate emails.
